2018-Crocker Amazon

Crocker Amazon, 415 Day 2018

The third 415 Day was held at Crocker Amazon, San Francisco's third-largest park after Golden Gate Park and the Presidio.

Named after Charles Crocker, a railroad tycoon who acquired a significant amount of property that included what is now Crocker Amazon Park, the land has a long history of serving the community. Once the site of the Crocker Amazon Reservoir, the SF Recreation Commission received permission to develop the property for recreational purposes in 1934, when the playground and baseball diamonds were installed for Excelsior residents. Over the years the land was converted into a park, a hospital, housing for veterans, and then back into a park again.

Schools like Luther Burbank and Balboa High School used the park for softball and baseball games, and San Francisco's Samoan community has been gathering there since the 1970s to play cricket and celebrate their Flag Day.

This location was chosen to represent the working-class people of the Excelsior.

Today, Crocker Amazon is home to Hummingbird Farm, a six-acre community farm run by PODER that focuses on environmental justice, organic food production, and education, located near the park's soccer fields and Moscow Street parking lot.
