2021 415 Day of Resistance

In 2021, the (S)olidarity (F)orever (C)ollective made a deliberate and principled decision not to bring people together in person. With COVID-19 still threatening the health and safety of communities that had already been hit hardest by the pandemic, choosing not to gather was itself an act of care — a reminder that protecting Black and Brown lives is always part of the work.

2021's 415 Day was dedicated entirely to Restitution; the restoration of something lost or stolen to its proper owner.

The land. The culture. The futures. The lives.

The collective used the day to make bold, unapologetic statements against the forces that have long stripped San Francisco's most rooted communities of what was rightfully theirs. They held a raffle, finding a way to celebrate community and give back even while apart. And they took to the streets with messages that said exactly what needed to be said: People Over Profit. Dismantle White Supremacy. Abolish Police. Reimagine Our Tax Dollars. Frisco Forever. These weren't slogans — they were demands, rooted in the lived reality of displacement, neglect, and a city that has too often chosen profit over its own people.

That April also marked two years since one of the most significant victories in recent San Francisco history, when advocates, organizers, and justice-involved youth successfully convinced the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to vote 10-1 to shut down the city's local juvenile detention center. It was a hard-fought win that proved what organizing from the bottom up could accomplish. But wins on paper don't always translate to change on the ground, and the slow pace of implementation was a source of deep frustration.

415 Day 2021 refused to let that momentum die. It was a year of accountability — honoring the victory, demanding the follow-through, and reminding the City that the young people it had long locked up, the families it had long displaced, and the communities it had long neglected deserved not just acknowledgment, but full restitution for everything that had been taken from them.
